Italy
The Lamborghini Estate is located in the heart of Umbria, nestled among the gentle hills south of Lake Trasimeno and the charming medieval village of Panicale. Situated on the border between Umbria and Tuscany, it enjoys a privileged position just a short distance from Cortona and the picturesque Val di Chiana.
The estate was acquired in the late 1960s by Ferruccio Lamborghini, who, while traveling through this enchanting land, fell deeply in love with its landscape—at once rugged and harmonious.
As a young man, Ferruccio had never imagined becoming a farmer. His father owned a farm and hoped he would carry on the family tradition, but Ferruccio had different dreams: he was fascinated by invention and driven by a deep passion for mechanics. While the world is familiar with his achievements in the automotive industry, few know what happened in Panicale in 1968, when he purchased this estate.
Here, Ferruccio felt a deep and almost inexplicable connection to the land, as if he had returned to his roots, rediscovering the essence of agriculture. From that moment on, leaving behind his renowned automotive business, he dedicated himself tirelessly to the estate. He personally oversaw its development, planted vineyards, and transformed the property into one of the most modern wine estates in Italy at the time.
Today, the estate extends over approximately 100 hectares, including a 9-hole golf course, an elegant resort, and 38 hectares dedicated to vineyards.
From the very beginning, a variety of both red and white grape varieties were planted. Alongside traditional grapes such as Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo, Ferruccio also chose varieties that were innovative for the time, including Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
In the mid-1990s, Patrizia Lamborghini took over the management of the estate, continuing and further strengthening her father’s ambition to produce wines of the highest quality. Since then, the entire vineyard area has been replanted, with a focus on varieties such as Sangiovese, Merlot, Grechetto, and Chardonnay.
An unwavering pursuit of quality, the desire to express the unique character of the territory, and the oenological guidance of Riccardo Cotarella have led to a profound transformation of the estate, with a clear goal: the production of wines of absolute excellence.
