Child Company of LES GRANDS CHAIS DE FRANCE
Martin Klipfel created his business in Barr 1824 with the acquisition of the prestigious Clos Zisser vineyards.
His son Eugène was a true pioneer in viticulture in Alsace: one of the first in 1921 to produce Vendanges
Tardives (late harvest) and Sélections de Grains Nobles (selection of Noble Rot grapes), 60 years before these
terms became official designations. Louis greatly contributed to the development of the vineyard and the image of the House.
While also presiding over a number of viticultural associations and committees, the meticulous care he gave his vines was
remarkable and he transmitted his passion for Alsace wines to his children.
The marriage of his daughter Andrée Klipfel to André Lorentz, a member of the Académie du Vin de France,
contributed to the growth in sales both in France and for export over a period of several decades.
Their son Jean-Louis and his daughter Anne-Sophie still work in the same way with great care given to the
quality and authenticity of the wines and to promoting them to the clientele.
