SCHUBERT ESTATE & HARE'S CHASE
The sub-region of Marananga is home to some of the Barossa Valley's most prestigious vineyards and wineries including Torbreck, Seppeltsfield and Penfolds.
It is also home to Schubert Estate and Hare's Chase, two vineyard properties producing small ranges of wines that explore and profile the subtle nuances in Shiraz character, flavour and texture that can be achieved through site selection, winemaking techniques, oak maturation and judicious blending.
Both Schubert Estate and Hare's Chase are low yielding, cane pruned vineyards producing wines of intense flavour and structure, with freshness and vitality. All wines are basket pressed.
Schubert Estate is named after George Johann Christian Schubert who emigrated from Prussia to Barossa, purchasing land and planting the first vines in 1915. Today's vineyard on this original property was planted in the late 1990s, comprised of 5 blocks across 16 hectares differentiated by soil profile, elevation and topography.
The labels of Schubert Estate feature references to the goose, a strong willed, loyal and intelligent bird renowned for their personality and for being protectors of their territory.
Hare's Chase is a 14 hectare vineyard located three kilometres to the south of Schubert Estate, separated into 12 individual blocks that also reflect differing soil types, row orientations and topography. Shiraz is the mainstay of these vineyards but there is also Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache and Mataro. As with Schubert Estate the focus is on vine balance and sustainability.
The ridges and hillsides that carve the horizon at Marananga are peppered with pink quartzite and ironstone deposits. Hares have long made their homes around Marananga, living well camouflaged in the shallow scrapes they dig.
The Hare's Chase labels feature the hare bounding with determination across the bottle; a symbol of vigilance and independence.
Soul Growers stands for everything that is great about the Barossa; shared wisdom, new ideas, mateship and a passion for making and enjoying great wine. It was born out of a friendship of three dedicated souls who saw the opportunity to join forces and chase their winemaking dream. Paul, Tom and Stu had worked together previously in a corporate world but were convinced that their future would one day be an uncomplicated, hand-made and lovingly nurtured winemaking enterprise working with the best grape growers to emphasise the regional and varietal flavours of our beloved Barossa Valley.
Welland is an enduring century old vineyard in a truly unique location that is enjoying a new lease on life. You will find the Welland vineyard in South Australia’s Barossa Valley, in the township of Nuriootpa. Planted in 1923 by one of the Barossa’s founding families, Welland is the last remaining section of much larger plantings of vines and fruit orchards that once occupied the northern end of the township, and now surrounded by housing development.
Welland works with varietals that are ‘at home’ in the Barossa – Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon! These are ‘tried and tested’, they produce wonderfully rich and flavoursome wines that consumers around the world love. While the Welland label is young, owners Ben & Madeleine Chapman have years of hands-on wine industry experience in growing import / distribution relationships. A genuine desire to restore the Welland vineyard to good health thus becoming one of the Barossa’s and Australia’s most unique yet productive sites of high-quality Shiraz is their vision.
Their winemaking philosophy is simple — make wines they like to drink, and work with varieties that are suited to the Barossa. Rich, generous, balanced and longevity are words that characterise the Welland style — flavoursome wines that are enjoyable and approachable in their youth, retain balance, and will reward cellaring. Fruit is sourced from the Welland Shiraz vineyard and other premium vineyards across the Barossa. This allows for smaller parcels of exceptional and unique fruit to be used in making the Welland range of wines.
One of Australia’s leading designers was engaged to develop the Welland packaging, and a growing list of wine critic reviews and show results is testament to the wine quality.
Please make contact should you wish to discuss the possibility of partnering with Welland in your market, Ben & Madeleine would welcome this opportunity.
YARRA VALLEY: Cool by nature
Australia’s premier cool-climate wine region is situated less than 50km from the heart of Melbourne, Australia’s most dynamic city and culinary capital.
A unique fusion of vibrant urban energy and spectacular natural beauty, with a 180-year industry legacy and unrivalled varietal versatility, the Yarra Valley is a magnet for the most talented and progressive winemakers and a prestigious atelier for very high quality, inspiring wines.
As one of the southern-most wine regions of mainland Australia, with over 80 wine producers and approximately 2,500 hectares of vineyard planted among the rolling hills of the Great Dividing Range, the vast range of microclimates are cooled by both oceanic and alpine influences.
Vineyard altitudes ranging from 50 to 430 metres, and soils from grey-brown sandy-loam, to red-volcanic, all add to diversity of style, and the unique ability of the region to produce truly world-class wines from almost all traditional, and many emerging varieties.
Yarra Valley Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon based table wines have long been celebrated for their intrinsic elegance, complexity and finesse and more recently, the region’s enduring Shiraz or ‘Syrah’ wines have also become Australian benchmarks.
Juxtaposed alongside the premium fruit supply for many of Australia’s traditional-method sparkling wine producers (being the Australian home of Chandon), are the award winning examples of late ripening Touriga Nacional and Nebbiolo wines grown on warmer sites.
The eclectic Yarra Valley wine community honours and is guided by its rich winemaking heritage. It is committed to a future shaped by innovation, responsibility and respect, carrying a strong ethos of land and river stewardship, collaborative and sustainable practices and recognition for the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation as traditional custodians.
The Yarra Valley is special, aspirational and undeniably cool.
Wine Yarra Valley is the peak industry body for the Yarra Valley wine sector, providing technical, marketing and advocacy support to wineries, growers and producers. We are a member association that partners with a range of industries and organisations to ensure effective stewardship of the Yarra Valley wine industry for a sustainable and successful future. Our vision is that the Yarra Valley wine region is recognised globally for cool-climate wine excellence, enhanced visitor experiences and leadership in sustainable practices.

Western Australia is home to some of the most outstanding wines in Australia.
Located over 1,000 miles from Adelaide and closer to Jakarta than Sydney, the terroir and wine culture is unique to the remote south-west corner of Australia. Its dramatic coastline, signature clones and ambitious, premium-focused producers conspire to produce beautifully balanced wines with intense fruit and elegant acidity. The best are amongst Australia’s most age-worthy.

Xavier Goodridge crafts idiosyncratic expressions of Pinot Noir & Chardonnay through his Estate range, grown on his three hectares organically farmed vineyard in Gippsland’s Maffra, in cold climate Victoria.
Xavier Goodridge’s Estate range winemaking style supports his philosophy of letting the vineyards work shine through in the finished wine. For him, winemaking is the ‘easy part’, as he believes that the foundation for great wines is laid in the vineyard itself. His approach revolves around minimal intervention, allowing the grapes to express their natural characteristics without manipulation. Xavier’s ‘light touch’ on wines involves the wines fermenting spontaneously with no fining, filtration or additions except for small amounts of sulphur. Wines are usually raised in large-format old French oak, which allows them to mature gently and gracefully. This choice reflects his preference for a more restrained and harmonious integration of the vessel used, allowing the fruit to take centre stage. The result is a collection of wines that captivate the senses with their purity and lively energy.
The PAPA range, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris, is a reflection of Xavier’s passion for working with the finest growers he has encountered during many years in the wine industry. Drawing from his extensive experience and connections, he collaborates with some of the best viticulturists across Victoria and South Australia to source the highest quality grapes to craft this range.
