What products are you particularly interested in at Vinexpo Asia 2024?
Vinexpo Asia is always a remarkable opportunity to see friends and colleagues and to meet new wineries from around the world. I’ll certainly be spending time at the Napa Valley booth, as I know some prestigious wineries will be joining who always have exceptional wines and offer captivating learning opportunities.
I am looking forward to seeing the Australians once again - given their pause in visits to the region. I always enjoy spending time with them, and I am eager to see who is returning to Asia and explore the intriguing new wines they will be introducing.
You are giving two masterclasses at Vinexpo Asia this year. What do you hope attendees will take away from these sessions?
I always enjoy presenting Prosecco DOC. There is so much opportunity in Asia for these wines, which are fun, high-quality and suited to many dining and social occasions. Sommeliers from restaurants, bars and hotels would thoroughly benefit from joining to take a closer look at the styles on offer and where they fit within the beverage spectrum of their businesses.
I am also presenting a “deep dive” into Ribera del Duero. I am very excited about this masterclass, as the region is one of the sixth most important of Spain yet is under-represented in Hong Kong. I have thoroughly enjoyed returning to the wines and region in preparation for the class, and feel it has so much to offer in terms of quality, story, and flavour profile. Attendees should walk away with an appreciation for these elements of the region and also see it as a very attractive way to diversify their red wine offerings outside of France and Italy.
